Clinical Activities

The Center for Special Needs Education offers clinical services. Our lab provides these services mainly for children who have difficulties with speech, language, and/or communication. Please feel free to contact us.

Educational Counseling

In addition to the educational evaluation and assessment of infants, children, and students who are the subject of educational counseling, we also provide counseling for parents and classroom teachers through interviews, telephone calls, and e-mail. Educational judgment and evaluation is conducted by a team of faculty members from the Center for Special Needs Education Practice and the Department of Special Needs Education (Center staff) and training counselors (undergraduate and graduate school students majoring in special needs education), who make judgments and evaluations based on psychological, motor, communication and language, auditory, visual, and other tests. The results of these tests are then used to evaluate the child's progress. Based on the results and the needs of the infants, children, students, and their guardians, appropriate educational support will be discussed. In addition, the center provides consultation on problems and concerns related to daily child-rearing and educational support and assists in finding solutions to these problems. We also provide advice on how to improve the environment for infants, children, and students with disabilities and referrals to other medical, educational, and rehabilitation institutions.

Educational Clinical Practice

The center provides appropriate educational support based on the results of educational consultation and evaluation, as well as the needs of infants, children, students, and their parents. The center staff conduct not only educational clinics themselves but also provide clinical guidance to trainee counselors. By learning how to examine and evaluate young children and students with disabilities and how to create individualized instructional plans and clinical methods, the training counselors aim to become educators with knowledge in the field of special needs education and the ability to implement clinical education upon graduation.

To students

The Center for Special Needs Education is always looking for students to engage in educational consultation activities. You do not have to be a seminar student of Kawai Laboratory, but we target students enrolled in the Special Needs Education Teacher Training Course in the School of Education. If you belong to a course other than the above and would like to join the activities at the center, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
